This weekend (weather permitting), a group of us will be traveling across Florida to play in the annual East-West Florida Cup at the PGA Resort in West Palm Beach. Because many of the top players are at a big tournament in Atlanta this weekend (see below), I am captaining the West Coast’s 70s team.
FORMAT: We will be playing the Davis Cup Format; four singles and one doubles in each age division. And there will be TEN age divisions: every five years from 35-80.
SCORING: Therefore there will be 50 total matches; and the team receives one point for each match won. In case of tie, defending champion retains the Cup.
SCHEDULE: Again, if the rain goes away, singles will be played Saturday morning and doubles in the afternoon. And then Sunday morning, we will play the “reverse singles” matches.
Ray Bellamy, who beat me in one of the January tournaments and then lost to Fred Drilling in the finals, will be our 70s #1 singles. I will play #2 singles; and the experienced team of Dick Valentine/Matt Davie will be our doubles.
I just learned that our West Coast 60s team (including Andy Bloom and Howie Ames) will be facing Roscoe Tanner and Dick Stockton! So, it should be a fun weekend.

But you will see a different tournament format than has been; so scroll down to “Important Information” and click on “Draws” to get the normal drop-down box.
