Longboat Key Doubles and January Tournaments

Today’s tennis results will be brief; but more interesting to many will be what will be happening with the January USTA Super Senior Series in Florida.

Tom and I played our first round doubles match in a chilly, sunny day against a local team of Rich Fiore and Nelson Goldner. They were a solid 4.0 team and we were on serve with Tom serving at 1-2 in the first set.

We really focused, played smart, played aggressively … and won the next eleven games; for a 6-2, 6-0 victory.

At dinner tonight, we were replaying the match… and could not remember either one of us: missing a return of serve, an overhead, or double faulting.

So we are staying up here to get a good night’s sleep for our 1:30 match tomorrow against the #4 seeded team of Ferguson and Plummer.

January Tournaments

While at the tournament, I had a chance to speak with Larry Turville, who said they have lined up a club up here to host the Category II tournament (that was at the Naples Bath and Tennis).

The lineup is now:

January 10 – Colonial, Ft. Myers
January 17 – Cape Coral
January 24 – Sterling Oaks
January 31 – University Park, Sarasota

… a long drive; but at least there is a tournament.
