Wednesday was a cool clear day for our second round doubles match against the #4 seeded team of Clive Kileff, Signal Mtn, TN (formerly of south Africa) and Jim Lazenby, who had beaten me in singles the day before.
Tom McCune had just come off the singles court with former world #1 Fred Dilling; with a good showing, losing 6-2, 6-3.
Our doubles match was extremely close and came down to just a few points difference, which resulted in one service break (against us) in the first set and one in the second set.
The difference between them and us was their touch in executing difficult lobs over our heads and excellent reflex volleys on shots we thought were winners. We mostly took away their lob option by our net man standing back a few feet, while we were serving; but their volleys still made the difference.
But I was still happy with my play and “fearless†approach to the game (more to come on the new little book).
Next: the Big One at Naples Bath & Tennis next week. The singles draw will be out later today.
