The “Final†Chapter Today was the finals of the 60’s doubles at the last of the four January senior tournaments. My first-time and younger (he turns 60 this year) partner Mike Dahm and I faced Naples’ Bob Dilworth (#1 in New England in 65 doubles) and George Morton. Today was our day. No mystery and no long story… at about 6’ 3â€, Mike really dominated the net, as we won 6-3, 6-2.
I followed the instructions of my Legend’s coach, Roy Emerson and did not miss one return of serve; but it was Mike’s strong play that carried it today.
Earlier in the morning, he also won the 60 singles title; so he should take home a nice piece of the $40,000 (!) in prize money for this series of tournaments. I told DeDe I would take her out for Fan Appreciation Night Dinner with my portion.
My next “match†is very, very early Monday morning (5:30 a.m. at the hospital); so this was a good end to the month of tennis.
