The tournament season is here! On Monday, January 8th the first of four SW Florida tournaments, with over $40,000 in prize money, kicks off at the Colonial Country Club in Ft. Myers.
The “tour†moves the next week (January 15th) to a National Category II tournament at Naples Tennis Club (aka Naples Bath & Tennis). Then on the 22nd, the play is in Old Naples at Cambier Park; and then the last local one is back at Naples Tennis on the 29th.
If my body holds up, I plan on playing both 60’s singles and doubles – with Tom McCune as my partner. We were pleased to learn that – due primarily to very few teams playing enough to qualify – we are currently ranked #67 in the nation and #2 in the state of Florida!
- Don’t get injured.
- In singles, to beat more players than I lose to.
- And to beat one seeded player.
- In doubles, to win more matches than we lose.
- And to reach at least one finals.
The action starts for me on Monday with a match at High Noon against a player I do not know, Jim Johanson, who is traveling over from Boca Raton on the east coast to play. The winner will play the #2 seed, Evert Jonsson, Tuesday afternoon.

After Tennis: So after four Mondays of starting tournaments, on the fifth Monday – February 5th – I am now officially booked for the prostate surgery. The timing couldn’t be better: I am sure to want/need a rest after the month of January!
More to come.
