US Davis Cup: The US men’s squad, led by Patrick McEnroe, are off to play on Russian red clay for the World Group semifinal match on September 22-24 (to Monday, the 25th, counting the change in time zones).
The team will be lead by the once-again US #1 Andy Roddick playing first singles; James Blake playing second singles; and the Bryan brothers in doubles. They will be matched up against a strong team of Russian men: Nikolay Davydenko, Mikhail Youzhny, Dmitry Tursonov, and Marat Safin.
What are their chances away from home on slow, red clay?
You have to bet that the Bryans, with their 8-1 Davis Cup record and 3-0 on clay, can win the doubles. Andy is 20-7 in Davis Cup matches; but only 3-5 on clay. So he should win at least one singles match. Now, can he win both or can James Blake (who is 11-6 overall and 3-2 on clay) win at least one of his singles matches?
